Patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) is a common cause of knee pain, particularly in women. This disorder is characterized by pain in the front of the knee due to a misalignment of the knee cap, or patella, during knee movement. An analysis of multiple studies done by the JOSPT now supports the strengthening of particular hip musculature in conjunction with knee strengthening for reducing pain and improving function. This has already been the standard of care at McVay Physical Therapy, and we will continue to provide comprehensive, evidence-based practice to provide the best care possible!
