Carpal Tunnel
Carpal tunnel is a common disorder that causes numbness and tingling in the hand. It commonly affects the thumb and index finger and can cause weakness (especially of the thumb). Tingling and numbness can be caused by many factors (including nerves being pinched in the neck, shoulder, elbow and forearm as well as diabetes and other neurological problems). A thorough evaluation by the therapist can help determine the cause of the symptoms and rule out other pathology. Night splints are commonly recommended as well as tendon gliding exercise.
Tennis/Golfer’s Elbow
Lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow) and medial epicondylitis (golfer’s elbow) are common injuries to the elbow.
It comes from overuse and involves inflammation in the tendons in the elbow. The flex bar (TM) is a piece of equipment recently shown to help this problem. It can work using it eccentrically (negative is the term used in weight lifting) along with a stretching program. We have different flexbars (TM) to vary resistance.
Common treatment also includes ultrasound, laser, stretching, bracing, Mulligan mobilization techniques and other eccentric exercise with return to sports.
